Why We Should Do Fasting

Your soul is the king, the mind is the charioteer, and your life is the journey. When the Moon (mind) follows the Sun (soul), everything flows with purpose. But when the mind takes control, confusion begins. These teachings help you bring them back into harmony — through fasting, awareness, and inner alignment.

In the sacred image of the Sun God’s chariot, the soul is the rider, the mind is the charioteer, and the seven horses represent the vital forces of life. The Sun, like the soul, knows where to go — but it relies on the Moon to steer.
When the Moon (mind) follows the Sun (soul), life flows with clarity and purpose. But when the mind acts from emotion, fear, or indulgence, it overrides the soul’s wisdom — and the chariot goes off-course.
This is why fasting and mindful eating were honored by the sages — not to punish the body, but to purify the mind. The Moon is nourished by food, and most karmas are born from the mind’s reactions.
One of the most powerful ways to realign the Sun and Moon is to fast on your birth Tithi — the lunar day you were born on. This reconnects the mind to its true master: the soul. When that harmony is restored, life becomes clear, steady, and purposeful — just like the chariot led by the divine.
